For the Casserole
  • 1 pound Ground Beef lean mix (85/15) recommended
  • 4 cups Potatoes Russet or Yukon gold, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium Onion finely chopped, sautéed for milder flavor
  • 2 cups Shredded Cheese freshly shredded cheddar or mozzarella
  • 1/2 cup Milk alternative milks can be used
  • 2 tablespoons Butter melted, can substitute with margarine
  • to taste Salt adjust to taste
  • to taste Pepper freshly ground is recommended
  • to taste Garlic Powder or substitute with fresh garlic

Method
 

Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef for 7-10 minutes until browned; drain excess fat.
  3. Sauté finely chopped onion with the cooked beef for 3-4 minutes, seasoning with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  4. Peel and thinly slice the potatoes uniformly.
  5. Layer half of the potato slices in a greased baking dish, seasoning with salt and pepper.
  6. Spread the beef and onion mixture over the first potato layer.
  7. Add the remaining potato slices on top.
  8. Whisk together milk and melted butter, then pour over the layered ingredients.
  9. Sprinkle shredded cheese evenly over the top.
  10. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes; remove foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until cheese is bubbly.
  11. Check doneness of potatoes, allow to rest for 10 minutes before serving.
