Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a 12-inch broiler-safe skillet over medium heat. Cook potato gnocchi until golden-brown and crispy.
  2. Melt 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter in the same skillet. Add sliced yellow onions, thyme, kosher salt, and black pepper. Cook for 30 minutes until caramelized.
  3. Pour in 1/4 cup of dry white wine, scrape the pan, and let it cook down for about 1 minute. Stir in 1 teaspoon of balsamic vinegar.
  4. Combine crispy gnocchi with caramelized onions and sprinkle 6 ounces of Gruyère cheese on top. Broil for 4–6 minutes until bubbly and golden.
  5. Sprinkle with remaining fresh thyme and black pepper before serving. Enjoy warm straight from the skillet.
